I'm 115 lbs and I had two 2.5 mg melatonin pills within 3 hours of each other. The first a swallowed and the second I used correctly (dissolved it under my tongue for fast absorption). Is this dangerous?
Melatonin is the "sleep hormone" produced naturally by your body. I think the indicated maximum daily supplemental amount is 3mg, but 5mg won't kill you (in fact, almost any dietary/herbal supplement won't kill you even if you take a whole bottle (assuming you're not allergic), but I would not recommend trying it). I've taken 6mg or more of melatonin before, and the only thing that happened to me was I woke up drowsy with a headache.
If you think you might be having an adverse or allergic reaction, then have someone take you to the emergency room.
